Tommy Douglas - Mouseland

.
When I was a child, my great aunt and uncle lived next door to me.  Both of them were committed politically and I enjoyed their discussions about civic events.    Until the time cancer claimed him, my great uncle volunteered his time and the politician from his riding stopped by for the memorial held at his home.  In this video, Tommy Douglas explains the origins of the third political party in Canada in a way that's entertaining.  This was the man who fought for medical services being made available to all citizens, at the same cost.  I was excited by politics when I was a kid and it saddens me tht so many people now don't even bother to vote.  I am solidily working class---my father crawled through  attics as an insulator  and my mother was a cleaning woman until her arthritis finally became too severe.  I cringe at comments made by people who assume that anybody with such roots is destined for a trailer and meth abuse.  The working class is a shrinking group, yet continues to shoulder much of the tax burden.  As we move closer towards an election in this country, I hope those who are able to vote for the first time do so and discover that there are decent people still involved in the process.
